Visit of the Polish Ambassador
The Ambassador of the Republic of Poland, Katarzyna Skorzyriska, was in Viana do Castelo today for her first official visit to the region. The ambassador, accompanied by the First Counselor of that country's embassy in Lisbon, was received by the Mayor, who organized a visit to companies in the county where there may be business cooperation.
The visit, carried out at the request of the Polish embassy, began with a reception at the City Hall in which cultural and economic issues were discussed, as well as possible exchanges between the two countries and, above all, Viana do Castelo.
José Maria Costa, with the strategic objective of launching bridges between Poland and Vianese companies, presented the business panorama of the region, with emphasis on renewable energies, shipbuilding and business diversity in Viana do Castelo.
At the end of the welcome session, Katarzyna Skorzyriska visited Browning Viana, a company located in the Industrial Zone of Neiva, dedicated to the exclusive manufacture of sports and hunting weapons.
Being a division of the Belgian group FN Herstal, with more than a century of experience in the design of firearms, Browning is the only national arms factory and has attracted the attention of the ambassador, who questioned the company's managers about exports to Poland , where hunting is one of the most practiced sports.
The delegation also visited Suavecel, a company founded in 1996 that is dedicated to the transformation of paper, namely toilet paper, kitchen rolls, handkerchiefs and napkins.
With an eye on export, this industry has been making its production increasingly efficient, having drawn the attention of the ambassador for its productive capacity, quality and novation.
At the end of the visits, a business forum was scheduled for possible business and institutional cooperation between Viana do Castelo and Poland, with Katarzyna Skorzyriska underlining the strong potential of business cooperation.
It should be noted that Poland has a diversified economy among the shipbuilding, coal, steel and electric power industries, although the country's intention is to increase its economic development, particularly with its entry into the European Union.
